2015 Wrap Up!

My Top 5 Books of 2015

As we all know the year is coming to an end and it's only fair that I recognize the top books that really blew me away!

5) Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Wow. Wow. Wow. This debut book by Victoria Aveyard was SPECTACULAR. I know I was expecting it to be good, but it was better than I thought. The concept is utterly unique and positively enthralling. I'm pretty sure I would do just about anything for an ARC of Glass Sword. (Hears to waiting and delayed gratification, though.)

4) Ensnared by A.G. Howard
There were far too many concluding books for the year 2015 and Ensnarled was definitely one that made my heart really hurt from knowing that. I was never a major Alice in Wonderland fan until I read these books! Finishing this series was all kinds of painful, but hey, Untamed just came out so i'll still get my Wonderland fix. ;)

3) End of Days by Susan E.E.
I waited and waited and waited for this book. I'm not patient, and when I finally got a hold of it i'm pretty sure I didn't put it down AT ALL. Knowing that this was the last book in the trilogy kind of killed me, but Susan really finished it with a bang and some good action. (Thank God rereads exist.)

2) A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Alright, so it's only fair that I mention how much I FANGIRLED OVER THIS BOOK. MY GOSH.  ACOTAR was very close to making first place for me. I am in love with these characters and THIS WORLD IS MIND BLOWING. Easily a top read for me this year!

1)   Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
Sarah J. Maas is just killing it this year.  I am completely invested in the world of Celaena Sardothien. Queen of Shadows was by far my favorite book of 2015, I still can't think of all of the amazing words that could describe this book- but it's my MVP, and #1 for this year!  It was the star of my book tree, too!  Plus, what other book would I take selfies with?

Happy New Years, Readers! Hope it's one full of happiness, completed goals, and books.

Demons in Disguise

Demons in Disguise

By: A&E Kirk

Rating: 4 Wine Glasses

  This series is seriously underrated.

I’ve been thinking this from the moment I finished the first book and it still echoes in my thoughts even now that I’m done with the third one. I don’t feel like enough people are aware of just how FAN-FREAKING-FASTIC this series is…and that kind of makes me slightly upset. I know writing a review won’t make this series blow up over the country, but I just want people to be aware of just how much they are missing out on by not reading it.

I’m utterly engrossed in the character that is Aurora Lahey.  She has been the ultimate reason for me loving this series as much as I do. Loving the main character is so incredibly important and A&E Kirk made it absolutely impossible to hate this one. She’s relatable, she has spunk, she’s slightly awkward and incredibly clumsy - so yeah, I kind of feel like Aurora and I would hit it off really well.

I’ve been hexed by the lovely hex boys.

The Hex boys are just another reason that I am so in love with this series. This group of guys are all so different, that just reading about how they interact and deal with each other is hilarious. I’ve obviously become a bit more attached to a few of them * cough* Ayden, Matthias *cough * but trust me when I say that I care deeply for all of them. There friendship is something that you can’t help but admire.

Now, you know how there are some books where you’re just like, “ Where the heck is this kids family? Well, I’m so happy to inform you that A&E Kirk make sure you’re aware this girl does in fact have a living breathing family- plus they are a hilarious group of people. I can’t get over half of the scenes that happen with her siblings. Usually families somehow are an issue in writing, but A&E Kirk made the family not only fit into Aurora life but also really expanded on it in a positive way.

The plot for this book was a bit different from the first two, we had a new- very important- character introduced…and let me just say. WOW. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to jump ship like this for any other book than Heir of Fire, so this guy was just that well done. I don’t know how this is going to affect the next book, but I’m slightly dying inside from not knowing. He MADE this book for me. If there was a book MVP award he would win. (Right next to Aurora, of course). It got to a point where I was just like, “He needs to be around all the time, if he leaves he needs to be back in 5 pages because withdrawal is real.”

This book just solidified how positive I am that this series is too good to not be in every ones hand now. I can’t speak highly enough on how much I’ve fallen for not only the fantastic plot, but these character that are sure to pull you in and keep you for good.

Waiting on Wednesday #8

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're anticipating!

For this Wow I picked the book:

Title: Everland
Author: Wendy Spinale
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Publication Date: April/26/2016

Summary(From Goodreads):

Forget the story of Peter Pan you know. Because in Everland, the only way to grow up is to survive.

London has been destroyed in a blitz of bombs and disease. The only ones who have survived are children, among them Gwen Darling and her siblings, Joanna and Mikey. They spend their nights scavenging and their days avoiding the ruthless Marauders -- the German Army led by Captain Hanz Otto Oswald Kretschmer.

Unsure if the virus has spread past England's borders but desperate to leave, Captain Hook hunts for a cure, which he thinks can be found in one of the survivors. He and his Marauders stalk the streets snatching children for experimentation. None ever return. Until the day they grab Joanna. As Gwen sets out to save her, she meets a mysterious boy named Pete. Pete offers the assistance of his gang of Lost Boys and the fierce sharpshooter Bella, who have all been living in a city hidden underground. But in a place where help has a steep price and every promise is bound by blood, it will cost Gwen. And are she, Pete, the Lost Boys, and Bella enough to outsmart Captain Hook?

Adios, Tributes!

My Thoughts and Feelings of Mockingjay

(and the Hunger Games being over in general)

I feel the strong need to talk (VENT) about the movie Mockingjay Part II. AND, I can promise no spoilers, and Jennifer Lawrence Gifs.

So this is the end, guys. <---That was pretty much my thoughts the entire movie. Yes, I followed the story line and made sure to pout when they didn't follow the book, but honestly I was just stuck in the never ending line of thinking that these 4 years have come and gone far to fast. Didn't the first movie just come out? WHERE IS THE TIME GOING? I feel like my entire childhood is disappearing before my eyes and this movie was like a slap in the face. It's over. Walking out of that theater was like signaling my defeat and accepting it's ending (So obviously I was very slow moving out of that theater.)

This movie was a decent conclusion. I pictured it differently, but nothing ever turns out the way you think it will. It followed MOST of the books storyline, but there were plenty of time that I was giving death glares to certain scene. Oh, and I think you should know that wasn't a big fan of the book Mockingjay from the get-go, so I wasn't excepting to be totally blown away with this movie.( I wasn't). I really think since I didn't like the books, it only makes sense that I' m not floored by the movie.

There were cheesy scenes, guys. LIKE BIG FAN SECOND HAND EMBARRASSMENT CHEESY SCENES. I was just like, "This is horrific, why?" When I watch all the other movies I never got that "Cheesy vibe" but it was coming off in waves on this one guys. BIG WAVES. So, just a warning to all the people who haven't seen it, you might be cringing at some scenes.

Now, we all know that there are some deaths in this conclusion, and I was satisfied with about 75% of them. (Because they followed the book). There is one death that just wasn't done right. AT. ALL. and I want to have words with the director about it because it's not enough.

Overall, I would give this movie a 3.5/5 stars. It was a solid conclusion, and it still made me cry. (A lot). It's just hard officially letting go of these characters.

Hmmm...I'm going to have to say anything Jennifer L. Armentrout, specifically the Lux series and Covenant Series.
